Cemitério Marinho

The series of images Olhar Marinho (Marine Gaze) is composed of drawings, metal engravings, lithographs, watercolor, and oil/paper paintings created between 1985 and 1988.

The internal origins of this work, the way it was constructed, each fragment, each image, all seem to follow a precise outline, already thought out beforehand. Each representation seems tied to the one before or after it, but in reality, the history of the transformations during this period is quite tumultuous. To give an idea, there are several versions, where the differences range from the technique used to fundamental variations in the way of representation.

LE 1986

Lygia Arcuri Eluf

What is essential is the active principle: what you see is a sketch of a regulated game of spiral constructions in nature, full of meanings but never entirely finished.

The motif, the Olhar Marinho (Marine Gaze), is as intimate to each image as if it went beyond representation: the celebration of a state of mind in partnership with Paul Valéry. My intention is to bring the sea, always beginning again.

“Les temps scintilla et le songe est savoir.”
